Who We Are

A love for Jesus Christ and an ardent desire to see Him glorified in inner-city Greensboro were the impetus for the founding of this interdenominational body of believers. We are striving to bring together God’s people from all walks of life that each might minister to the other according to their gifts and abilities. Our highest aim is that we might together demonstrate the reality of Christ as we are made one.

Grace Community Church was organized during the summer of 1987 by a group of friends. We began Sunday evening worship services August 1, 1987. In February of 1988, we moved into the United Way community center on Arlington Street. Our present facility, the old McIver School, became home for our body in July of 1995.

While all of our ministries here at Grace Community Church are for the purpose of helping us grow in our love for God and for each other, we believe Small Groups of believers provide the best environment for relationships and life transformation to occur. Click here to do an online search for a Grace small group, or email us for more information.

Worship at Grace is contemporary at both services. Dress is casual. Click here to listen to a recent service. Our Sunday worship services are at 9:25 & 11:00 a.m. Interpreters for the deaf and hard of hearing are available at the 9:25 a.m. service. On Wednesdays, we have our Community Fellowship Dinner at 6:00 p.m., followed by Bible Study at 7:00 p.m. We’re located at 643 W. Lee St. in Greensboro, NC. [map]

What We Believe

Our Purpose

“Living out the Gospel, crossing racial and economic lines.”

Our Mission Statement

“The mission of the part of the body of Christ called Grace Community Church is to build the kingdom of God by calling a diverse and unified community of believers to authentic love relationships with God and each other, and by proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus and reflecting His character through relationships with the poor and the lost everywhere.”

Statement of Faith

We believe

  • the Scriptures to be the inspired Word of God, without error and infallible in the original manuscripts, and the final authority in faith and life.
  • in one God, eternally being in three persons - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - these three being identical in essence.
  • that in Adam’s sin humanity fell, inherited a sinful nature, became spiritually dead and alienated from God. Man of himself is incapable of remedying his lost and depraved condition.
  • the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, became man without ceasing to be God, in order that He might reveal God and redeem sinful man. This redemption He accomplished by voluntarily giving Himself as a sinless substitutionary sacrifice on the cross.
  • the Holy Spirit is the divine Person through whom new life is brought to those who are spiritually dead. The scriptures affirm that He is with us forever, that He seals us unto the day of redemption, that He bestows spiritual gifts upon us, and that He empowers us for service.
  • salvation from the penalty of sin (justification), the power of sin (sanctification), and ultimately the presence of sin (glorification) is the gift of God’s grace. It cannot be gained by meritorious works, but is freely bestowed upon all who put their faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross.
  • the Lord Jesus Christ instituted two ordinances to be observed by all believers until His return; baptism and the Lord’s supper. Their observance by all believers is urged.
  • in the personal, imminent coming of the Lord Jesus Christ for His Church.
  • at death the souls of those who have trusted Christ are to be with Him forever in glory. We believe that the souls of unbelievers are to be separated from God forever in conscious punishment.
