A Word from the Teaching Pastor, 11/23/2008
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
The holidays can be a great time with family and friends. For many it is a time to refocus on the things that really matter. If the birth of Jesus means anything, it surely underlines God’s willingness to roll up His sleeves and enter into our worlds. The Almighty chose to come as a servant. He basically lived a life that taught us, “to have life is to give it away.” He said as much in Matthew 16:25:
“For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.”
The holidays can be a great time to reconnect with family and take the focus off ourselves by giving to others. There are a few ways we could sure use the help and I think it could be a fun thing for families to do together. Would you pray about the following needs and see if the Lord might be calling your family or you to lend a hand?
- Would any of you out there be willing to join the staff on Dec. 2nd and help decorate the sanctuary for Christmas? We will begin at 9:30 a.m. following our 9:15 House Time devotional. Please call Caryl at the church office (336-455-9294)if you’d be willing to help.
- We have a real need for fill in substitutes for nursery and Sunday School during Thanksgiving, and the Christmas Holidays. Nearly one third of our regular teachers and helpers are going to be out of town this Sunday. If you’d be willing to help us cover this need, please contact Shannon at the church office (336-455-9334).
- We have three opportunities in our Outreach Ministry: We have an upcoming Go and Know (Dec 6th) to invite the neighborhood to the banquet; our Community Christmas Banquet (Dec 13th); and the WE! Winter Emergency Homeless Shelter Program (begins Dec 15th) all depending on Grace Community Church manpower. If you would like to know more, please check the web site or contact Marshall Benbow at 336-455-9332 or at mbenbow@gracecommunitychurch.org.
